Both AC balance and AC frequency settings are great tools to have.

Once you understand these settings, you can get them dialed in to your applications.

And once you get them set, you won't need to adjust either one very often.

Rule of thumb for AC balance setting is to have just enough cleaning action to get a clean shiny puddle and to have about 1/8" of cleaning zone outside the bead.

Rule of thumb for AC frequency settings is lower HZ on thicker metal and for wide beads and higher HZ settings for thin metal or narrow focussed arc.

These are simply rules of thumb to guide you but your own experimenting will let you know what works best for your application.
