Fireball Tool Maximus Bar and Dog Clamp – 2 Clamp Set
When ordinary bar clamps aren't big enough—or strong enough—step up to the Fireball Tool Maximus Bar and Dog Clamp.
Designed for serious welding and fabrication work, the Maximus turns readily available 2" × 1" rectangular tubing into an extremely powerful, customizable bar clamp. Choose the tubing length that fits your project, slide the Maximus clamp components into position, and build a clamp that's as long and as strong as your application requires.
This package includes two complete Maximus clamp sets, giving you a serious clamping system for large frames, welding tables, structural fabrication, fixture work, and oversized assemblies.
IMPORTANT: 2" × 1" RECTANGULAR TUBING IS NOT INCLUDED.
Build the Clamp Length You Need
One of the biggest advantages of the Maximus system is that you're not locked into a predetermined clamp length.
The Maximus components slide over your choice of 2" × 1" rectangular tubing.
Need a shorter clamp for bench fabrication? Cut a shorter section of tubing.
Building a large frame or oversized assembly? Use a longer section.
You control the length of the clamp by choosing the appropriate tubing for the job.
Serious Clamping Force
The Maximus isn't just about reach. It's built to generate serious clamping pressure.
With suitable 1/8" wall rectangular tubing, Fireball states that the system can easily produce 2,500 lb or more of clamping force.
The actual capability of your setup depends on the strength, wall thickness, material, and length of the tubing used as the clamp bar.
That makes the Maximus adaptable to the job: heavier bar material can be used when more strength is required.
Massive 1" Diameter Spindle
At the heart of the Maximus is an oversized 1" diameter spindle with 6 threads per inch.
Fireball rates the spindle itself for more than 10,000 lb of clamping force.
The coarse thread provides the strength needed for heavy fabrication while giving you plenty of mechanical advantage when pulling large assemblies into position.
Extra-Long Spindle Travel
Large fabrication projects don't always line up perfectly before you start clamping.
The Maximus gives you approximately 9" of spindle length with a 12" overall spindle assembly, providing plenty of adjustment range.
That extra reach is useful when:
-
Pulling warped material into position
-
Working around obstacles
-
Aligning large frames
-
Clamping irregular assemblies
-
Reaching across fixtures
-
Correcting fit-up before tack welding
It's built for the kind of jobs where a small clamp simply runs out of adjustment.
6" Standard Throat Depth
The standard Maximus configuration provides approximately 6" of throat depth from the bar to the center of the pressure pad.
That extra reach allows the clamp to apply force farther away from the edge of your material.
Fireball also offers a Short Arm 3.5" throat option for applications where a more compact clamp head is preferred.
Clamp or Spread
The Maximus isn't limited to pulling material together.
Reconfigure the direction of the components and the system can also be used for spreading.
That gives you one heavy-duty system for both:
Clamping material together
or
Pushing material apart
This can be particularly useful when straightening, positioning, aligning, or correcting fabricated assemblies.
Use Multiple Clamp Heads on One Bar
Because the Maximus uses rectangular tubing as the backbone of the system, you're not limited to one clamping point per bar.
Multiple clamp heads or feet can be positioned on a single piece of tubing to create multiple clamping points.
This opens up a wide range of possibilities for:
-
Large frames
-
Repetitive assemblies
-
Welding fixtures
-
Structural fabrication
-
Straightening
-
Alignment work
-
Custom fabrication jigs
Build the clamping setup around the project instead of trying to force the project to fit a conventional clamp.
Large Swiveling Foot Pad
The Maximus uses a large pressure pad designed to work on both flat and round material.
The pad is retained with a spring washer that helps prevent it from flopping around while still allowing the pad angle to rotate and conform to the workpiece.
That makes the Maximus useful across a wide range of tubing, plate, structural material, and fabricated components.
Designed to Compensate for Bar Deflection
Any long bar will begin to deflect as clamping force increases.
That deflection can cause a conventional clamp spindle to move out of alignment with the workpiece.
Fireball designed a preload angle into the Maximus arm specifically to help compensate for this effect.
As the rectangular tube begins to bend under load, the geometry of the arm helps keep the spindle aligned within an acceptable range.
It's a small design detail that becomes increasingly important as clamp length and clamping pressure increase.
Forged Steel or Ductile Cast Iron
The Maximus is available in two heavy-duty construction options.
Forged Steel
Choose the Forged Steel Maximus for a substantial heavy-duty clamp setup designed for demanding fabrication work.
The standard forged steel configuration weighs approximately 10 lb per clamp set.
Ductile Cast Iron
The Ductile Cast Iron Maximus provides another heavy-duty option for fabrication and shop use.
Fireball lists the standard ductile cast iron configuration at approximately 8.4 lb per clamp set.
Standard or Short Arm
Choose the throat depth that works best for your projects.
Standard
Approximately 6" throat depth
The standard configuration gives you additional reach from the rectangular bar to the center of the pressure pad.
Short Arm
Approximately 3.5" throat depth
The Short Arm configuration provides a more compact setup when the additional throat depth isn't necessary.
What's Included
This listing includes 2 complete Maximus clamp sets.
Each Maximus clamp consists of:
With two sets, you'll have the components required to build two complete Maximus clamps once installed on your own rectangular tubing.
Tubing Is Not Included
You will need to supply your own:
2" × 1" rectangular tubing
This is intentional—the Maximus allows you to choose the length, wall thickness, and material that best fit your application.
