Fire Pit Project part 2- MIG welding with Primeweld MTS200

MIG Welding with the PrimeWeld MTS200

In part one of this 2 part series, I tack welded the pieces together using a torch switch and the 2t setting.

Then I used the 4t function with upslope and downslope to weld 4 of the outside corners.

I will place that video at the bottom of this page in case you missed it or you can see the whole blog post here

For the rest of the corner welds and the legs, I used the primeweld mts200.

There are a wide range of settings that would work just fine on this 11ga steel and normally, if I wanted to speed the whole process up ad get finished quicky, I would have used at least 200 ipm.

Fot for the purposes of filming the arc, I wanted to slow things down a bit so I chose to use a lower wire speed setting of only 150 inches per minute and 18 volts.

I knew it would work fine from previous videos I had done.

The primeweld mts200 also does lift arc TIG and Stick and comes with an air cooled CK TIG torch with valve...stay tuned for videos on lift arc tig.

Here is the part one video showing 2t and 4t settings tig welding the 11ga outside corners

I used the PrimeWeld TIG225x with a torch switch for tack welding and some outside corners

Hi Jody, didn’t realize your battle. You’re a welder(damm good one at that), you’ll beat this. Welders are a different breed. We never give up when things are tuff. Also, want to say, thank you for all the videos and dvds and equipment you sold me from your online store. You are greatly appreciated by all of us welders. Wishing you and your family the very best.

my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. you have been a very helpful reference over the years, and at 59 years old, I’m still learning new things from you. i have to face similar issues your going through, as did two of my brothers. unfortunately they are no longer with us, but myself and another brother have had better outcomes so far. im not going to spread false hope, but id encourage you to check out what RFK is putting in his drinks, and give a listen to Joe Rogan when he has Mel Gibson on his podcast. very interesting stuff, and i can say its been giving me good results. anyway, i wish you the very best on your journey.
oh before i forget, to answer your question about note taking, i absolutely do, not as much as i used to, mainly because i can save and refer to your videos. lol. anyhow, thanks for reading, and thank you so much for inspiring me to be a better welder/fabricator. much love

Hi Jody,
You were the inspiration when I first started welding. Thank you for that. Your videos are priceless. The importance of teamwork is demonstrated in your projects and collaboration with other welders.
I can only assume that the professionals that manage your treatment are taking care of you with the same confidence as you would with your own welding projects when applying your welding skills – Preparation to the final product/ solution / result.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge with others selflessly. A mark of your grounded and balanced character.

I wish you and your family all the best.

Yes, taking notes with speeds, feeds, AC, DC, straight, reverse, etc. are always useful, it you can find where you left them.

Keino Davie - May 21, 2025

Jody, All the best and blessings with the treatment. You are in the hands of the Almighty GOD our Father – Who loves you !.
May he touch you in your Spirit.

Regarding your other question… do I make notes. As lazy as you.
But I once had to help to write a manual on building Aluminium Boats, so Record keeping with heeps of Photographs and 3d Sketches I had to do every night and build the manual as I build the Boat, helped me.! Every setting was always handy on the next build and tweaked it till final.

I was given 13 days to build a single boat. My last 4 or 5 boats was done in under 8 days and the last was 7 days….

I was called in by the Manager and told to slow .. down and use the 13 days. Although there was far less repairs than before, I was asked in a nice way to fit in or move on. I went for the latter.

Left them the manual I made but that was not used I guess.

But yes, knowing your game or thinking you know your game is weeks apart.

Record keeping, and details on a good plan helps all of us save time. You are doing it for your self….

Have a great day and Thank you…. Just a very BIG thank you for YOU.

I am a huge proponent of notetaking especially if you do wide variety of jobs ,materials, welding processes. I also take notes because my memory is sometimes inaccurate.

Tim - May 21, 2025

I have found that note taking has been a big help for me. I am also glad to here that you are progressing well with your cancer, thoughts and prayers are with you.
