Having the exact Settings won't turn a bad welder into a good welder but If you are kind of new to TIG welding aluminum, seeing the weld in action along with exact settings used can be very helpful.
Here are the settings used for a .063" thick aluminum outside corner joint
WELD PROCESS = TIG, GTAW, GAS TUNGSTEN ARC WELDING
METAL TYPE = ALUMINUM 6061
THICKNESS = .063"
WELD TYPE = FILLET
JOINT TYPE = OUTSIDE CORNER
POSITION = FLAT 1F
AMPERAGE = 85-90 AMPS ( BACKING MATERIAL REQUIRES MORE AMPS THAN WITHOUT)
TUNGSTEN = 2% LANTHANATED, 3/32" tapered
FILLER WIRE = 1/16” 4043
POLARITY = AC
GAS FLOW = 12-18 CFH argon
CUP SIZE = 6
ADDITIONAL SETTINGS = AC BALANCE 35% CLEANING, AC FREQ 110HZ
PRE FLOW = 1 SEC
POST FLOW = 10 SEC
TIPS: KEEP A FAIRLY TIGHT ARC AND WATCH TORCH ANGLE
Aim for an arc length that is equal or less than the diameter of your tungsten electrode. Torch angle can be forgiving provided your arc length is tight.
