2 inch Pipe 2G TIG Root-Fill-Cap

2 inch pipe welding

2g pipe welding is when the axis of the pipe is vertical and the weld is horizontal.

This is a very common weld for boilermakers except boilermaker welders also contend with very tight spaces.

Freehand tig welding a 2 inch pipe is a boilermakers bread and butter and if you have ever made a 2g weld on 2 inch or smaller, you know it gets pretty hot.

A TIG finger® lets you prop right next to a hot weld and lets you concentrate on making the weld instead of how hot your knuckles are getting.

A TIG finger is like Having a prop in your pocket so that you can prop on hot metal and focus on the weld.

The basic procedure for the 2 inch 2G weld is:

2 inch sched 80 carbon steel pipe

35 degree bevels

1/8" gap

Zero land (feather edge)

1/8" ER70S6 filler

100 amps

3/32" 2% lanth tungsten

5 stubby gas lens cup with 15 cfh argon flow

On the root pass at 3:59 and 4:04, is this considered full penetration as the edges do not appear to be fully tied in. If this were a qualification test, would it pass? I am not being critical, just curious.
