Welding Project - Fabricating a Wood Heater for a Shop..No plans, No problem
My Friend Matt Hayden and I built a wood heater for a friends shop.
We didn't have any plans or drawings but we have both built wood heaters before so we just went with a general idea and knocked it out.
We had a piece of 20 inch pipe to start with and using the nice tools in Matt's shop, it went together pretty nicely.
First thing was to use a wrap around to get a nice even face on the side of the pipe that had been torch cut previously.
The top and and bottome round plates along with hinges were cut on the CNC plasma.
Before cutting the doors, the grate and top and bottom round pieces were all welded to avoid distortion when the door openings were cut using a oxy propane torch.
This wood heater is now installed in a decent size shop 50ft x 60ft as the main source of heat and its for a life long friend of mine. I was hoping to show it in operation but maybe I can get some pics and post them here later.
I hope this video gives you some ideas in case you want to make a wood heater for your shop.
