Tips for Aerospace Weld Test Practice on Carbon Steel

Get some cheap practice for an Aerospace Welding Test

If you are at all interested in getting an aerospace welding job, this video is one of many that I hope will help you pass an aerospace weld test.

Aerospace alloys most used for weld certification tests are often these alloys:

  1. 4130 chromoly
  2. 17-7 ph stainless
  3. Inconel 718
  4. 6061 aluminum
  5. Az31B Magnesium
  6. 6AL4V Titanium
  7. Haynes 188

Some of these alloys are very expensive so it makes sense to get some practice on plain carbon steel before attempting to weld on the more expensive alloys listed.

Carbon steel is cheap practice metal but still provides good practice for aerospace welding tests.

Especially if you use stainless or nickel filler metal.

You will still learn how to position and prop for best results

you will also learn how to use the fixture and how to gap the plates to compensate for distorion
