Quick tip #1 Using a cheap jersey glove for your filler rod hand
There are no rules to say that you have to use the same type gloves on both hands.
Sometimes a cheap jersey glove can help you feel the filler wire and help you learn to feed it better. You can get these gloves practically anywhere. I grabbed some at the dollar general for this video.
Quick tip #2 Spool gun settings and gas flow rates
Settings can be finicky for mig welding aluminum with a spool gun.
But so can the argon flow rate. Not enough flow will give you soot, but too much flow will make for a very unstable arc.
I suggest increasing the flow rate until the arc becomes erratic, then reducing flow rate until it settles down.
Quick tip #3 Dual shield flux core settings that work for all positions
Here is an easy to remember setting for dual shield flux core welding with .045" wire. Since .045" is a very common diameter , this is handy to remember.
25 volts and 250 ipm
Remember this is for .045" wire only but its easy to remember and works great for all positions on 1/4"-3/8" thick steel.
